About Arbaeen

Massacred in the plains of Karbala, Iraq for refusing to give his oath to the tyrannical Caliph Yazid, the death of Husain Ibn Ali (a.s) the beloved grandson of the Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h) and the third Shi’i Imam, has become immortalised in the pages of history as a man who fought and died for the purity of  faith from the clutches of corruption. Forty days after his martyrdom on the day of Ashura, the event known as the Arbaeen of Imam Hussain (a.s) is commemorated, where Muslims and individuals of other religions and faiths mourn and express their love for Imam Hussain (a.s), his oppressed family, and his sister Zaynab Bint Ali (a.s), alongside his faithful companions.

About Us

This year (2017) Hussain’s Call has produced a short documentary that documents this extraordinary annual event. It relays the story of Nada – a Canadian women of Iraqi origins, who travels to Karbala to experience this procession first-hand. Along the way, she explores the reason behind what motivates millions of people from diverse ethnic, national and religious backgrounds to travel to Karbala and why thousands upon thousands of ordinary people serve these visitors. Join as we uncover the rationale behind the participation and involvement of these people, in what is considered the largest yearly gathering of people in the world- the Arbaeen of Imam Hussain (a.s).
